carbon offsetting
VFB offers its customers the chance to hire vehicles on a carbon neutral basis. We have calculated the CO2 output that our vans and buses will produce and by investing in ethical and credible carbon reduction projects around the world we can offset the carbon produced. This is a bold statement, not only of VFB's commitment to the environment, but also as a commitment to our hirers to help them achieve their own specific carbon neutral or carbon reduction targets.
What is Carbon Offsetting?
Touring consumes energy and produces carbon emissions: driving, flying, powering amplifiers, etc. Carbon offsetting compensates for your emissions by funding essential renewable energy, forestry and resource conservation projects around the world which generate reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
How Can I Carbon Offset?
This is the simple bit: we will automatically give you the option to carbon offset during the quotation process. We just need to know what mileage you will be travelling in order to make the calculation. We use emissions figures published annually by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. For our splitter vans we use the figure for Class III (1.74 to 3.5 tonnes) vans which is 0.44703 kg CO2e per mile. For sleeper buses we use the figure for a HGV Rigid (>17 tonnes at 50% laden) which is 1.49840 kg CO2e per mile.
Every hirer who opts to Carbon
Offset through VFB will be provided with a certificate that can be
shared on social media.
Which Project Do We Support?
We support a UK Tree Planting & Protecting the Amazon project.
Type: Tree Planting and Reducing Deforestation (REDD+)
Country: UK + Brazilian Amazon
This project provides an opportunity to plant trees in the UK whilst also helping to protect the Amazon Rainforest – the largest remaining rainforest in the world.
The Amazon is known for its amazing biodiversity; containing 10% of all
species, including many endangered species. For each tCO2e offset, one
tree is planted in the UK in the region of your choice and an additional
tCO2e is offset through the Brazilian Amazon Verified Carbon Standard
(VCS) Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD)
project to guarantee the emission reductions.
In the UK, the majority of
trees are planted in school grounds, bringing further educational and
CSR benefits. More information on UK Tree Planting can be found here.

As
a company we recognise that virtually all activities in the transport
industry have some impact on the environment. We believe that our
performance as a leading transport provider will be measured not just
by the standard of our vehicles and our service, but also by our impact
on the shared environment. We are striving to continually improve our
environmental performance in a number of key areas:
Emissions Standards
We
are continually working to upgrade our vehicle fleet to the latest
emissions standards, which are now Euro 6 (Dec 2024). For a diesel
vehicle to be Euro 6 compliant it cannot emit more than 80mg/km of NOx
(nitrogen oxides) gases. Vans For Bands' splitter van fleet is exclusively Euro 6.
Carbon Offsetting
We provide all of our hirers with the option of carbon offsetting against the use of the vehicle they are hiring. This option is built into their quote and is provided by Carbon Footprint Ltd.
Impact
To further reduce the negative impact our activities have on the environment we aim to:
- Manage our energy use and explore opportunities for reducing consumption.
- Minimise the volume of waste sent to landfill by optimising of utilisation of raw materials, re-using materials when possible and segregating waste for recycling purposes.
- Manage our fleet movement to reduce fuel consumption.
- Keep up to date with new vehicle technologies with reduced emissions options
